Homework

    Reading

Reading is part of the children’s homework so they should read each school night for about 15 -20 minutes or a minimum of 4 nights. They should journal after they have read and write a summary to help them with their quiz. We have practised in school reading for 15 minutes and read quite a lot. Please sign the children’s books when they read each night for 15 minutes.

    • Spelling will be placed on Seesaw each Monday and tested on Friday. Please practise the spellings. A couple a night is better than all in one go.
    • Seesaw Homework will consist of Reading, Grammar, Arithmetic, KEYs work and times tables. It will be published on Seesaw every Wednesday. This needs to be completed electronically by the following Wednesday. If the children do not manage to complete the homework by Wednesday, they will be allowed access to an IPAD during break time on Friday to complete it, so that they have the same chance as the other pupils to consolidate their learning and bridge gaps. (the login details for SeeSaw are stuck inside your children's Reading Journal) I will also place a list of activities on the website and support materials to help at home.

    Times Tables

This year children in Year 4 will be expected to take a Multiplication Table Check. This is produced by the Government and will be taken in June. The children will be tested on their tables up to 12 x 12.

The MTC is an on-screen check consisting of 25 times tables questions. Your child will answer 3 practice questions before moving on to the official check, and will then have 6 seconds to answer each question. On average, the check should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete. It is so year 4 pupils can demonstrate fluent recall of the times tables and give them the time to input their answers.

    Times Tables Homework

We will be working hard on our times tables this year in class and completing Times Table Rock Stars at home will be an important part of their homework. The children will need to know all their tables from the 2 x table up to 12 x tables confidently.

They are expected to use TT Rockstars for this which is a fantastic, fun tool which allows them to practise the TT and progresses them as the master different multiplication facts. Times Tables will be tested on Friday through our Times Table Challenge.

Please fine below some useful Apps and websites that can help your child with their times tables. Some will be very similar to what the MTC will be like. Try to practise as much as possible.
