Homework

Please find the homework expectations for Year 4 outlined below.

Reading

Children are expected to complete 15-20 minutes of reading every night. After they have read, children should journal and write a summary to help them with their quiz. Please sign your child's reading journal so they can receive reading Ninja belts every 25 times they read. Reading journals will be checked in school on Thursdays.

Homework

Homework will be placed on Seesaw on Wednesdays and should be completed for the following Monday. Weekly homework consists of a piece of English and a piece of Maths, and sometimes a topic-based activity.

Spellings

Spellings will be placed on Seesaw on Fridays and will be tested on the following Friday. Throughout the week, spellings will be practised in class and ideally, should also be practised a few times at home. If your child gets any spellings incorrect on Friday in the test, they will write it in the middle of their reading journal, so that these can be practised at home.  Below are some tips to help the children learn their spellings:

  • Write the word out, cover it up and then check if it can be spelt correctly.
  • Try writing each spelling in a sentence.

Times Tables Rock Stars

To prepare for the times tables check, times tables will be tested regularly. To help with their learning, please try to encourage your child to complete 10 minutes of Times Tables Rock Stars online every evening. We will be looking to see who has been playing along at home and those who have will be in with more of a chance to spin the Wheel of Fortune.
