Week ending 28.2.25

Welcome back after half term. I hope you all had a lovely break. We are straight back into working hard and have started to work on division.

We looked at the concrete method of using counters and place value charts then used the pictorial method to understand our short division. This leads on to the more abstract bus stop method.

We have then looked at division with remainders. We mark out the groups in the place Value Chart to see how many groups of the divisor we can get out of each column.  We then exchange any remainders into the next column. This mean if we have 1 ten remaining we place 10 ones into the ones column. The important part is to use out times tables knowledge to help us work it out. Keep practising your times tables.

We have completed our collage of the Viking longboats. The children used lots of techniques to create their final piece.

We have started our topic of Easter - Victory in RE. We have looked at what victory means to us and looked at quotes from Nelson Mandela. We realised that victory does not always mean winning or coming first but individual to us all.
In PE we have started our topic on health and fitness and completed a variety of test including strength, balance, stamina and coordination. We will complete the same tests at the end of the topic to see how much progress we each made.

The children finished the week with a Friends of Cronton pancake toss. They had lots of fun.

It was lovely to see you all at parents evening on Monday and Tuesday. Thank you again for your continued support.

Wednesday brought more fun with a PTFA disco. The children had an amazing time.

This week in maths we have completed our multiplication. We started by looking at the area model and how we can partition the numbers to help us multiply before moving onto a more efficient method of long multiplication. It has been a lot of hard work and we are beginning to secure the method. We sometimes miss the zero when we multiply by a multiple of ten so remember to add it in.

We looked at how we can use a place value chart to show that multiplication is repeated addition when we multiply a 3 or 4 digit number by a factor.

We moved onto a more efficient method by using the area model to help us. This shows how we can partition the numbers to multiply before adding them back together to find the total.

We then moved on to the long multiplication method.

We then moved onto to multiplying three and four digits by 2 digits.

We have completed our narratives based on the Moon landing and we have written them out for display. The children have edited using the criteria and taken care with their handwriting.

In RE, We looked at the the teachings of Jesus and how he wanted children to be treated. In PE, we finished with a dance based on the Mayan civilisation and how they worshipped their Gods.

We have completed our science on space and I was impressed by the children's enthusiasm for the topic.

This week we won the reading challenge against Year 6. Well done to all those who contributed to the massive word count of over 330 000. Keep reading!

We enjoyed our music lesson with Mr Holland. Can you seehow much we are improving?
